The Village history-
The Village Playhouse and Repertory Company begins the ninth season of professional theatre East of the Cooper. What began in the summer of 2001 in a converted storefront next to the Food Lion has become one of South Carolina’s leading professional theatres, dramatically changing the cultural landscape of the lowcountry. We are proud of the more than 80 mainstage productions that have graced our stages since we opened our doors. Village Playhouse and Rep produces more than 150 nights of theatre each season. Under the leadership of founding Artistic Director Keely Enright and Managing Director Dave Reinwald, the Village currently welcomes more than 8000 patrons into the Playhouse each year. The Village Playhouse and Repertory is a small professional 501 (c) 3 organization, a founding member of the League of Charleston Theatres and a proud member of Theatre Communications Group–a national organization of professional theatres across America. The Village goes green-The Village seeks to model responsible environmental behavior that is in harmony with the Village mission. We are partnering with the Sustainability Institute this season on projects that can contribute to the ‘greening’ of our community. It is our intention to operate our business in as environmentally friendly way as we can.
We intend to encourage our staff and audiences to be responsible green citizens, and we endeavor to work with partner organizations that share our green values. It’s about our community. It’s about our environment. It’s about our Village.
